2nd Akihabara Film Festival 2017

The 2nd Akiba Film Festival will be held from 1-3 April 2017 at the Akihabara UDX Theater. 13 movies will be shown at the festival, from which 5 can be watched with live-at-the-venue dubbing.

It is rare for festivals around the world to show live dubbing. Beginning with Shin Godzilla, which was awarded 7 prices at the 40th Japan Academy Awards, other films that will be dubbed live are: King of Prism by PrettyRhythm, which just had a successful cheer-screening, the long-running Girls und Panzer movie, Pop In Q, a Toei anime made for their 60th year anniversary, and finally the recording of Super Kabuki II One Piece.

A host for each dubbing will be on stage and cheering manuals will be given out, making it seem like a fun event for those who aren’t fans yet. The movie Chat Zone with AKB48’s Mari Suzuki will premiere at the festival, as well as former Nogizaka46’s Seira Hatanaka’s Hana Utsuru Hana wa Saku. A stage meeting with the two of them is also scheduled.

Boonie Bears Mystical Winter (original title) will also be screening at the festival, which is a movie made to commemorate 45 years of diplomatic relationships between Japan and China. Other movies include 4-gatsu wa Kimi no Uso, GANTZ: O, A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi), Kizu Monogatari 3: Reiketsu-hen, and Monster Strike The Movie.

Assigned as ambassador of the festival is movie commentator Kon Arimura. He will heat up the atmosphere before the cheer screenings, and host the talk shows held at this event. Parallel to this festival, an idol event and maid championship will be held on the same dates as the festival.
